Lover's Turned To Water

Writer's picture: Jeremy PalmerJeremy Palmer

Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase

“You are but a drop of rain”

To be returned to the ocean’s wave

That we are all just the same?

We are pure energy

But maybe we used to be

Drops of water, you and me

But we were never a part of that sea

Above it we floated

In a glacier, frozen

We were together, chosen

But just out of reach, alone then

But we were meant to be together

Sure, we won’t be frozen forever

If that is fate, we won’t surrender

So, we shall prepare for something better

When the earth, this glacier absorb

We’ll come back in another form

Maybe something different, maybe something warm

Energy persists, no need to mourn

Let’s steer this ice block, full speed ahead

If it resists, we’ll push again

We’ll drive it to Northern Michigan

And let it rest when we say “when”

We’ll make rivers wide along the way

Pools of water, all sizes, call them “lakes”

Carve a cozy nook for us to lay

Even for just one September day

We’ll request, from this tree

A couple branches, a few loose leaves

Then we’ll ask it to drop its seed

Right….here! Grow a tree for us to lean

We’ll lean on it, take in the view

Among everyone else, they’ll be just us two

And whatever it is, we’re up to

It’ll stay between me and you

They planned their fate, not back but forth

With utmost faith, they went full force

Ahead! Forward!  They set the course

Calibrated the compass, they headed north

Then the sun caused the ice to melt

Lovers turned to water, each other, they finally felt

And the raindrop’s hearts did swell

Then from the glacier, our lovers fell

…………..

Then, maybe, a millennium passes

Ice turns to the greenest grasses

Don’t ask me how this stuff happens

Simply semantics, don’t get wrapped in

And one day

                                On this sacred land

Two human lovers

                                Hand in hand

In the nook they lay

                                Near the tree, they stand

They share the love

                                Long ago they planned
